Moving in!!

We hadn't planned on moving in until it was totally finished, but we had a plumbing backup and it flooded our little downstairs apartment.  We grabbed our area rugs and mattresses and moved upstairs at 10:30 on Wednesday night.  We figured as long as we were in we would move the rest of the stuff in on Saturday.  Our kitchen is 75% complete.  One more upper cabinet to install, 3 shelves below our 3 short cabinets, the reclaimed 150 year old barn wood top for the island (plywood is temporary) and tile backsplash.  The new refrigerator will be delivered on Thursday.

We are making progress on the deck.  The ramps are done and the staircase needs balusters and we need to seal and stain the deck.

Our living room is small, but open to the kitchen it is large enough and our furniture just fits!!

Making progress

We have been busy repainting the cabinets (used).  Chris had to rebuild some of them and make alterations so they fit in our space.  We have started installing in our kitchen!

The deck is almost finished!!  The decking is in, most of the railing and the ramps and stairs are being installed.

Oak floors are finished and they are beautiful!!

Finally done with the upstairs flooring!  We rented a drum sander, an orbital floor sander and a rectangular vibrator/sander.  We must have sanded the floors 100 time!  We started with 36 grit, but the floors had been sanded before, so there was a lot of wood to remove to get it even, so we then used 24 grit.  Then worked our way to 60 grit, 80 grit and 100 grit, then used orbital floor sander and then screen on the vibrator/ sander.  We put down Bona sealer and then used a pad and vibrator/sander with  a pad to smooth it and then 2 coats of Bona satin finish.  We love it!! Now onto the kitchen cabinets!!

Hardwood is finally installed everywhere!!

This week we finished the installation of the used hardwood flooring.  We barely had enough to finish, the last room had tongue and groove on the sides, but the ends were glued.  We are definitely on budget with the floors!  The material to do the entire upstairs of the house came to $950!  Although it will cost us to sand, stain and seal!
